Here&#8217;s a complete video on the process of how I learned to timber frame, DIY style.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/u5tV_SsH3Kw?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-US&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I mention it in the video description, but I found these two books essential &#8212; especially Beamer&#8217;s book:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3xgINIW\">Learn to Timber Frame<\/a>, by Will Beamer<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3QEz4mN\">A Timber Framer\u2019s Workshop<\/a>, by Steve Chappell<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have a 3D printer, then download the STL that I designed for a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.corbinstreehouse.com\/blog\/2022\/09\/borneman-timber-frame-layout-guide-layout-guide-free-download\/\">Borneman Layout Guide<\/a>. These are really handy for laying out the lines and joinery. I&#8217;d love one in metal, but the cost was a bit too much for me to swallow for one build.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This was my first timber frame project, and I had to buy some essential tools. Here is what I purchased just to do this DIY structure:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3d5FZaP\">Sorby 1.5\u201d Timber Frame Chisel<\/a> &#8211; I&#8217;d prefer a <a href=\"https:\/\/barrtools.com\/product\/framing-chisel-1-12\/\">Bar Chisel<\/a>, but it would have been $200 shipped vs $100 from Amazon <\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3xijA10\">Wood is Good 30 oz Mallet<\/a> &#8211; I could have made my own, but buying was way faster<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3d5fGBC\">1.5\u201d Ship Auger Wood Drill Bit<\/a> &#8211; I also got a 1&#8243; bit from my local Ace Hardware; they didn&#8217;t have anything larger in stock though<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3QDbxm7\">Japanese Pull Saw<\/a> &#8211; I barely used this; not sure it was worth it to buy it, but it is a nice saw<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Feel free to ask questions, here or on the video comments!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My last post I put up the plans for my timber frame shed &#8211; they are super generic and the minimal information I needed to build the wood shed.
