In this episode I talk about the prep work I do before starting to spray, and then discuss the various coats that I apply to achieve this look.<\/p>\n<p>I use water based finishes; they are better for the environment, are easier to spray, won&#8217;t explode when spraying, and clean up with just soapy water. I prefer to spray with an HVLP gun; I don&#8217;t discuss spraying techniques &#8211; if you are interested to learn how to spray leave a comment below and I&#8217;ll see about making a video for that.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The finishing recipe for cabinets:<\/strong><br \/>* Sand with 150 and then 220<br \/>* Blow off the dust<br \/>* Wipe down with denatured alcohol<br \/>* Spray a coat of WB Shellac to seal the grain and prevent blotching<br \/>* Wipe on a gel stain; let it sit for a minute<br \/>* Wipe off the gel stain, let it dry for 24 hours<br \/>* Spray a barrier coat of WB Shellac<br \/>* Spray 3 coats of EM6000 lacquer<br \/>* Sand with 400 grit by hand<br \/>* Spray one final coat of EM6000 lacquer<\/p>\n<p><strong>For drawers<\/strong>, I use solid maple and do the following:<br \/>* Sand with 100 (if needed), 150, and 220<br \/>* Blow off dust &amp; wipe down with alcohol<br \/>* Spray 3 coats of EM7000HBL lacquer<br \/>* Sand with 400 grit by hand<br \/>* Spray one final coat of\u00a0EM7000HBL lacquer<br \/>(Maple doesn&#8217;t need a shellac coat for a clear finish).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tools &amp; Machines Used<br \/><\/strong>* <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2IZzPHX\">HVLP Spray System<\/a>\u00a0(I have the older model)<br \/>* <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2GT5IPV\">Random Orbital Sander<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Finishing Products Used<\/strong><br \/>* <a href=\"https:\/\/www.targetcoatings.com\/product\/emtech-ush3000-ultraseal-wb-shellac-sealer\/\">EMTECH USH3000 UltraSeal-WB Shellac Sealer<\/a><br \/>* <a href=\"https:\/\/www.targetcoatings.com\/product\/emtech-em6000-wb-production-lacquer\/\">EMTECH EM6000 WB Production Lacquer<\/a>\u00a0(satin, for the cabinets)<br \/>* <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2LjsFkm\">Honey Maple Gel Stain<\/a><br \/>* <a href=\"https:\/\/www.targetcoatings.com\/product\/em7000hbl-high-build-wb-spray-lacquer\/\">EM7000HBL High Build WB Spray Lacquer<\/a> (satin, for the drawers, what I used is no longer available).<br \/><strong>NOTE<\/strong>: I used the \u201csatin\u201d version, as I did not want a shiny finish!<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This video shows my process for how to finish cabinets.
