I\u2019ve refined the shape quite a bit over the years and I always have been tending to go wider and wider, and more mountain bike in style.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Some of my original designs include the \u201cUnibar\u201d, which I fabricated from old bicycle handlebars:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"IMG_6885.jpg\" src=\"http:\/\/www.corbinstreehouse.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/IMG_6885.jpg\" alt=\"IMG 6885\" width=\"400\" height=\"266\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The old bike handlebars were really strong, but the metal base plate added a lot of weight to the overall design. I also didn\u2019t really like the angle very much. Check out a few more pictures and the Sketchup 3D file:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.corbinstreehouse.com\/blog\/2007\/12\/unibar-version-3-sketchup\/\">http:\/\/www.corbinstreehouse.com\/blog\/2007\/12\/unibar-version-3-sketchup\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Some other experiments I\u2019ve done (this isn\u2019t all of them!):<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">* <a href=\"http:\/\/www.corbinstreehouse.com\/blog\/2015\/03\/unicycle-handlebar-experiments\/\">Basic T shape<\/a> for my Corbin V36 unicycle. I didn\u2019t like the angle (there was none!)<br \/>* <a href=\"http:\/\/www.corbinstreehouse.com\/blog\/2015\/05\/unicycle-handlebar-inverted-v\/comment-page-1\/\">V-Shape for the V36<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; my current preferred handlebar.<br \/>* <a href=\"http:\/\/www.corbinstreehouse.com\/blog\/2016\/05\/v36-handlebar-update-brake-protector\/\">Brake Protector<\/a> for the V36; a modification to protect the brake; it works pretty well.<br \/>* <a href=\"http:\/\/www.corbinstreehouse.com\/blog\/2009\/01\/munibar-mountain-unicycle-handlebar\/\">Munibar<\/a>: A custom close handle muni specific bar. I liked the comfort, but it was too heavy.\u00a0<br \/>* <a href=\"http:\/\/www.corbinstreehouse.com\/blog\/2009\/09\/kh36-handlebar\/\">36er initial handlebar<\/a>: This put too much stress on the seat and flexed too much.<br \/>* <a href=\"http:\/\/www.corbinstreehouse.com\/blog\/2009\/12\/adjustable-unicycle-handlebar\/\">36\u2019er adjustable handlebar<\/a>: This let me figure out what geometry I liked. I rode this for a few years.<br \/>* <a href=\"http:\/\/www.corbinstreehouse.com\/blog\/2009\/01\/yet-another-unicycle-handlebar\/\">First basic T-Bar<\/a>: The first of my design that is a basic T for bar ends and attaches to the frame. Made from old bikes.<br \/>* <a href=\"http:\/\/www.corbinstreehouse.com\/blog\/2009\/05\/ajs-handlebar\/\">Basic T-bar<\/a>: I started making this \u201cbasic\u201d shape that allows attaching bar ends. I made a few of these, and they work pretty well.<br \/>* <a href=\"http:\/\/www.corbinstreehouse.com\/blog\/2009\/09\/machining-a-unicycle-clamp\/\">Brake adapters<\/a>: These allow the brake to be inline with the bar ends.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cbasic T\u201d shape became a standard for what production handlebars have become. However, most production handlebars still attach to the seat, such as the <a href=\"http:\/\/krisholm.com\/gear\/component\/t-bar-distance-handle\">KH T-bar<\/a>. I dislike this, as it flexes too much, and requires your seat to be extra beefy and reinforced to avoid breaking.
