{"id":3514,"date":"2014-01-10T22:42:27","date_gmt":"2014-01-11T06:42:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.corbinstreehouse.com\/blog\/2014\/01\/led-cyr-wheel-jig-completed-and-casting\/"},"modified":"2018-11-03T13:36:25","modified_gmt":"2018-11-03T20:36:25","slug":"led-cyr-wheel-jig-completed-and-casting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.corbinstreehouse.com\/blog\/2014\/01\/led-cyr-wheel-jig-completed-and-casting\/","title":{"rendered":"LED Cyr wheel jig completed, and casting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"top\" \/>\n<p>I completed the jig, centered it on the wheel and then screwed the jig to the wooden sliders:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.corbinstreehouse.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/IMG_0652.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.corbinstreehouse.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/IMG_0652-tm.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" alt=\"IMG_0652.JPG\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I took the jig off, and cut out the center hole to be bigger than 1\/2&#8243; (I think 5\/8&#8243;)<\/p>\n<p>It slides pretty easily along the tubing:<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.corbinstreehouse.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/IMG_0654.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.corbinstreehouse.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/IMG_0654-tm.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"666\" alt=\"IMG_0654.JPG\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I stuck in a 1\/2&#8243; end mill (the width of the LEDs) and played around with it until I got the depth I wanted. The jig is fairly simple, and works pretty well!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.corbinstreehouse.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/IMG_0655.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.corbinstreehouse.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/IMG_0655-tm.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"666\" alt=\"IMG_0655.JPG\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>That is a nice clean, straight cut. Done in two passes.<\/p>\n<p>Now I&#8217;m playing around filling it with the SmoothOn EpoxCast. It is mixed by weight, so I got a cheap scale from Target today.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.corbinstreehouse.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/IMG_0658.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.corbinstreehouse.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/IMG_0658-tm.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" alt=\"IMG_0658.JPG\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Things I learned: the wheel needs to be perfectly flat, otherwise the smooth on will run out of the groove. Or, I need a way to make a cast holding to pour in the smooth on. I played around with casting in some old LEDs. It&#8217;ll take 24 hours to dry before I see how well it holds and what it is like. The stuff is super clear though. You do have to be careful using the EpoxAcast &#8212; proper gloves, and breathing mask are required!<\/p>\n<p>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.corbinstreehouse.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/IMG_06611.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.corbinstreehouse.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/IMG_0661-tm.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" alt=\"IMG_0661.JPG\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The old LED strips I have (one color at a time, analog) have a hard coating to protect them.
