I figured this would be an easy project, but I also ended up getting lowered drop spindles and a 2&#8243; shorter front beam (I think dropped bugs look cool).<\/p>\n<p>The spindles:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.corbinstreehouse.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/IMG_8739.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.corbinstreehouse.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/IMG_8739.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" alt=\"IMG_8739.jpg\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It turns out, I need a special VW tool to remove the tie rods. So, it&#8217;s back to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cip1.com\">California Imports<\/a> and buying more stuff so I can take these things off:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.corbinstreehouse.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/IMG_8777.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.corbinstreehouse.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/IMG_8777-tm.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" alt=\"IMG_8777.jpg\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I then figured I&#8217;d put back on the front tires and install the rear disc brakes. Well, I quickly learned it is a pain in the ass to remove the 36mm axle bolt:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.corbinstreehouse.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/IMG_8783.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.corbinstreehouse.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/IMG_8783-tm.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" alt=\"IMG_8783.jpg\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>So&#8230;I&#8217;ll have to order <a href=\"http:\/\/www2.cip1.com\/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=ACC-C10-7036\">another tool<\/a> for that job.<\/p>\n<p>So, in the end, I didn&#8217;t get much work done today&#8230; Oh well!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m installing disc brakes on the bug, as they will help me stop faster in the event of an emergency.
